The Gary Marcus Audit

How the Structure claims and Reference sources line up, claim by claim.

Reference Dependency Crosswalk

This connects claims to outside pressure, not to certainty.

For every Structure claim, this table shows whether Reference supplies outside-world support or marks the dependency as author judgment. Unresolved / bounded is an honest label for a claim that rests on the author's reading rather than a public source.

SL-016-01
Marcus is not simply anti-AI.
SatisfiedRL-016-01His own posts support the documented-positions reading; they do not settle whether the warnings are correct.
SL-016-02
Marcus's ability to change adoption-committed readers' minds is a hypothesis, not a measured fact.
Unresolved / author opinionNo external source; it is the author's reading of reception, not a measured claim.
SL-016-03
The roadmap splits three ways: LLM-centered scaling, scaffolding, and architecturally distinct work.
Satisfied, with limitsRL-016-04, RL-016-05, RL-016-06Public lab pages support that all three layers exist; they do not reveal proprietary internals.
SL-016-04
Fable/Mythos splits Marcus's claims rather than supporting or refuting him.
Partly satisfiedRL-016-02, RL-016-03The restriction statement and scaling essay weaken low-ceiling claims and leave governance alive; neither audits capability.
SL-016-05
Capable enough to be dangerous is not dependable enough for institutional authority.
BoundedRL-016-02The security restriction shows capability concern, not validated reliability; where the line sits is contested.
SL-016-06
No public evidence shows leading labs claim LLMs alone are the sole path to AGI.
Satisfied, with limitsRL-016-03, RL-016-04Public lab statements mix scaling with agents and policy; private roadmaps are not public.
SL-016-07
The unsupported "moral failure" attribution was removed.
Cut, not narrowedExternal reviewThe claim was removed rather than softened; nothing external is imported in its place.
SL-016-08
Process is not proof.
Structural, not externalThis recordThe audit's rigor constrains the claims; it does not make them true.
